Sakaja digitizes all Nairobi payments

All payments made to the Nairobi county government will be electronic, governor Johnson Sakaja has announced.

He made the announcement on his socials.

The payments, he said, can be accessed by typing *647# on one’s mobile phone.

Research by Nairobi News indicates some of the payment options on the shortcode include parking services, licensing services, land services, market cess, property services, and my bills.

By digitizing the payments, Sakaja promised Nairobi residents that Nairobi stands a chance to be ranked among the most improved counties in revenue collection in 2023.

The move to digitize payments is also expected to help reduce corruption.

In 2022, Nairobi missed its revenue target for the last quarter of the financial year by Sh2.9 billion having collected Sh1.2 billion against a target of Sh3.2 billion.

These revenues are channeled towards payment of staff and construction of roads among other service delivery.
