University of Eldoret student stabbed to death in suspected love triangle

A third year male student at University of Eldoret University has been killed in a suspected love triangle.

According to a police report, he was attacked by an unknown assailant at the main campus while in the company of a fellow female student.

The report said that Chris Nyaribo died of injuries sustained in the fight on October 26 while receiving treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

According to witnesses, the student and his assailants had a disagreement over a female student before a fight broke out.

“The student was assaulted in the company of the female student and she expected to help in the investigation to find the said assailant and to establish the real motive behind the fight,” police said.

Police have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator, who is still at large.

The body was moved to the local mortuary on Friday pending autopsy and further probe.

The University of Eldoret Vice-Chancellor, Professor Teresa Akenga, expressed her sadness over the incident, stating that the university was working with the police to ensure that justice is served.

“We are saddened by the news of the death of one of our students. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. We are cooperating with the police to ensure that the matter is fully investigated, and justice is served,” Akenga said.

The latest incident comes a few months after another third-year student from the same learning institution identified as Elikana Kiplagat Korir allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death in a hostel.

The suspect allegedly attempted suicide by stabbing himself in the chest but was rescued and taken to hospital.

According to the police, the incident was caused by a suspected love triangle that has been brewing for some time. They said the two students quarreled before the killing.

The police collected a blood-stained kitchen knife from the scene of the crime. However, they are yet to establish what the two were pursuing at the university.

Last week, a first-year student was stabbed and killed days after reporting to Pwani University in Kilifi Town.

Faith Adongo Owino succumbed to her injuries following a suspected knife attack while returning home where she was stabbed multiple times by her assailants along the now-notorious Misufuni road, police and other students said.

She was rushed to Kilifi District Hospital’s Emergency wing, where she succumbed to her injuries.
