Why Jubilee MCAs do not want man with five degrees at City Hall

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero’s appointment of former health chief officer Robert Ayisi as new county secretary has sparked a storm that has taken a tribal angle.

Jubilee MCAs are uncomfortable with Dr Ayisi who they accuse of incompetence but Dr Kidero, supported by Cord ward reps, has dismissed their claims, accusing them of malice.

Minority Leader Abdi Guyo, of Jubilee also called for Dr Kidero’s resignation over the appointment.

Jubilee MCAs claim Dr Ayisi failed to spearhead reforms in his previous docket thus not fit for his office.

NO REFORMS

“We have never seen any reforms in the health sector that Dr Ayisi led,” said Mr Guyo who blamed the poor state of health facilities in the city on Dr Kidero’s appointee.

Mr Guyo said Dr Ayisi has not also cleared his name over the disappearance of twins at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital last year.

The MCAs claim the governor violated the law while making the appointment by not subjecting Dr Ayisi to a competitive process.

Dr Ayisi has threatened to sue Mr Guyo who he accuses of tainting his name.

However, Dr Kidero who spoke at City Hall told off Jubilee MCAs insisting Dr Ayisi is best placed to serve in the position.

FIVE DEGREES

“How can you say a person with five degrees from different universities, both in Kenya and abroad not qualified?” he said.

He said he exercised his authority to appoint the county secretary as required by the law.

Deputy speaker Ken Ngondi told Jubilee MCAs to stop politicising the appointment.

Dr Ayisi replaces Ms Lilian Ngegwa who was accused of defrauding the county a whopping Sh17.9 million together with other officials.
