Xenia Manasseh uniquely pays tribute to Sauti Sol with first-ever single ‘Lazizi’

Celebrating an illustrious two-decade-long journey, Sauti Sol, boy band, has announced an indefinite hiatus.

The group, composed of Bien, Savara, Chimano, and Polycarp, has left an indelible mark on the music scene with five albums, numerous hit singles, and collaborations that have captivated audiences worldwide.

Some of Sauti Sol’s iconic tracks, including “Lazizi,” “Blue Uniform,” “Sura Yako,” “Melanin,” and “Suzanna,” have etched themselves into the hearts of Kenya and the world.

As they take a well-deserved bow, it’s a momentous occasion in Kenyan music history.

In a heartfelt tribute to Sauti Sol, Xenia Manasseh, a Spotify radar artist and one of Kenya’s rapidly rising R&B stars, has made history by releasing the first-ever Kenyan Spotify Single.

She chose to cover “Lazizi,” a track revered as Sauti Sol’s initial breakthrough hit, marking a full-circle moment as she pays homage to the legendary group.

The Spotify Singles program offers artists a unique opportunity to re-record one of their existing songs in a fresh and innovative way.

It also allows them to cover a song of their choice, by one of their musical heroes. In Xenia’s case, her powerful vocals breathe new life into the 14-year-old classic, “Lazizi.”

Her rendition begins with a captivating harmony that reverberates throughout the song, providing a stripped-down, melancholic twist to the beloved track.

“Sauti Sol has been the soundtrack of our youth, for most of us, so it fits perfectly that the first-ever Kenyan Spotify Single was a cover of one of their most iconic songs.

It is an exciting time in the Kenyan music scene, and our hope is to have even more Spotify Singles by Kenyan artists,” expressed Monica Kemoli-Savanne, Spotify’s Artist & Label Partnerships Manager, East Africa.

Sauti Sol are set to perform in a two-day SolFest 2023 this coming weekend at Uhuru Gardens.
