Rachel Ruto: I celebrate the contribution of girls and women in the society
Kenya’s First Lady, Rachel Ruto, has said that she is celebrating the contribution of the young girls and women who toil in building the nation.
“In a special way, today, as we celebrate this 2022 Mashujaa Day, I would like to acknowledge the contribution of the girls and women of Kenya in nation building,” said Mama Rachel.

On the other hand, she noted that throughout history and worldwide, women have had an immense influence on the development of societies.
“Even as they devote themselves for the growth of these societies, women have been met by a lot of setbacks. Juggling between work and family, the Kenyan woman has continued to fight for equality, social justice, women’s rights and positions of leadership,” said Mama Rachel.
She also said that there is a need for the young generation to be taught and reminded of the history of the country.

On her social media page, the First Lady said the youths should be reminded about the iconic people who fought for the country’s freedom.
“Our children need to learn about heroes of the past. Our task is to make ourselves the future architects,” said Mama Rachel.
Singling out, the First Lady said Mzee Jomo Kenyatta is one of the iconic people who made the country make big strides.
“The recognition, appreciation and celebration of great and iconic Kenyans who have raised our national flag up the global mast is the essence of our Mashujaa Day,” said Mama Rachel.

She said that there is a need for the ‘old’ people to clear the paths of prosperity by passing the baton to the young generation.
“Even as we commit to clear new paths for posterity, we must teach the young the history of our nation so that they too can emulate and take pride in the acts of courage, resilience and dedication of our early champions. We must belabor, as a people, to build on their legacies and continue in the good work they started,” she added.
She also noted that the spirit of our National Heroes should find expression through our words and deeds.
