‘Hot air and wild goose chase,’ KOT refer to CJ Koome’s visit to Uganda

Chief Justice Martha Koome was bashed on Twitter after the Supreme Court ruling.

Koome, who appeared to be a target of vile remarks from Azimio sympathisers, was met by references of hot air and wild goose chase – words she used after she ruled that William Ruto was legitimately elected as the president of Kenya.

Her latest post was when she visited Uganda after attending the 17th International Association of Women Judges Africa Region Conference.

The CJ said that she spoke of the changing state of affairs across the continent regarding the representation of women in the Judiciary and other leadership positions.

“Women are increasingly breaking barriers to occupy positions of leadership within the Executive, Legislature and Judiciaries not only in Kenya but also in a number of other countries in Africa.

In the Kenyan Judiciary, we currently have 91 male against 81 female judges; 298 male against 295 female Judicial Officers (Magistrates).

These changes mirror similar developments in the legal profession where recent trends show more female lawyers being admitted to the bar,” she tweeted.

In response, Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) called her out, saying her visit was a hot air and wild goose chase.

When throwing out the petition by Martha Karua and Raila Odinga to strike out Ruto’s win, the Azimio legal team had argued that Venezuelan national, Jose Carmago, had aided in interfering with the IEBC servers in Ruto’s favour.

Led by lawyer Julie Soweto, the team displayed a PowerPoint presentation of a Form 34A that bore the name Jose Camargo on the IEBC public portal.

On this allegation, the Supreme Court termed the allegations as hot air that led them to a baseless claim.

“This turned out to be no more than hot air and a wild goose chase. It was admitted by IEBC as a manufacturer’s error,” read part of the judgment.
