Crime rate low since President Ruto took over – James Mugera Police boss
Police in Nairobi now says that the rate of crime in the last three months has gone down and reports that the opposite was true were out to tarnish the image of the new administration.
Speaking to Nairobi News, Mr. James Mugera, the police boss in Nairobi County, said that police were alert, hence why the rate of crime had gone down in September and October.
“The reports you are seeing on various media platforms are out to tarnish the image of the new administration. The number of violent robberies in September and October in fact declined,” he said.
According to him, the number of murder cases reported in September and October was only six, while the number of cases of causing grievous harm that had been reported was 12 and assault cases reported were 39.

Mr. Mugera said that the total number of cases linked to violence in Nairobi was 66.
However, in the last two weeks, social media users have been decrying an increase in robberies that sometimes even became violent.
In a series of police reports analysed by this reporter, which have been booked in various police stations within the city, several people were killed during robberies.
Early this week, suspected police officers blocked a motorbike rider and ordered him to enter a motor vehicle they were in before stealing Sh604, 500 from him.
Mr. Jackson Michira told officers at Spring Valley Police Post, Gigiri Division, that he was on his way to deliver the money to their offices located at City Park when he was stopped by the vehicle’s occupants.
They were dressed in police uniforms and white caps, similar to traffic cops.
Speaking to the Nairobi News, Mr. Michira said that the officers ordered him to stop, accusing him of obstruction as they ordered him to board the vehicle they were in.
“They accused me of obstruction and efforts to negotiate with them bore no fruits as they forcefully left with me as they abandoned my motorbike by the roadside,” he said.
In a report seen by this reporter, Mr. Michira had earlier on in the day been given a Bank Cheque of Sh604,000 by his boss Mr. Feroz Tejan, and he was to bank it at a local bank located within the Central Business District.

After he had been handed the cash and was on his way back to their offices, he encountered the four men.
“They robbed him of Sh604,500 before dumping him at Shazu Road in Parklands, Nairobi County,” the report further read.
According to him, he was not injured during the incident, and currently, police officers have launched a manhunt for the officers.
On Monday this week, a woman lost Sh800,000 as she was heading to cash the amount at a local Mpesa in parklands.
A police report by Nairobi News revealed that Ms. Penina Chege lost the money to a motorbike rider with a pillion passengers.
“She had just arrived at the roundabout located along Ojijo Road, two people on a motorbike whose registration number was sealed snatched her envelope. The scene of crime was visited, necessary action taken but no one has been arrested in relation to the incident,” the report read in part.

Cases of motorbike riders with pillion passengers stealing from members of the public have been on an upward trajectory in the country.
A week ago, two people riding a motorbike stabbed a man at Ridgeways Estate, located along Kiambu road, before they snatched a bag from him.
Police in Muthaiga Station say that the man, identified as Mr. Keagan Githua, 24, died, and his body is at the Kenyatta University Hospital morgue.
The family plans to bury his body on Wednesday, November 9, 2022.
