In the popular TV drama Machachari, actor Malik Lemmy played the role of Govi a calm, cool kid who was the problem solver whenever his friends and brother got in trouble.

Even at the young age of 8 years, his talent as an actor was outstanding. But since quitting the show in 2018 not much has been heard from him.

Born Malik Lemuel, he started acting 17 years ago at age five. His first acting role was in Makutano Junction before auditioning for Machachari.

Nairobi News caught up with him to find out exactly what he has been up to.

Where have you been all this time?

I have been around I have been doing things it’s only that I do not love social media all that much. When I quit Machachari, I have been involved in several things. First of all, in school, I am almost finishing my university studies in International Relations and political science. In 2020 I got back on screen for the drama series Kina, Kutu. There is also another show called Mawimbi that is coming out in a few I have done a lot.

It has been a long journey and I appreciate it, I started at Makutano Junction in 2005. I thank God for the journey.

You are now part of the cast of a new show on Showmax tell us about your character.

In the series Pepeta, I play the role of Dimory, who is a really selfish person also easy going, and loves his friends and the ladies. He is also that person who will push his friends into doing something. It was interesting acting in this role because the character is the total opposite of who I am. In real life, I am a quiet man, a family man, and sipendi clout, I like speaking the truth and not lying about my status because I believe humility is also very important.

What is your take on the industry?

I love how the industry has grown from the times when people would only be paid Sh500 but now we are getting paid well. I do not agree when people say Kenyans artistes are not getting paid we are getting paid, especially if you know your brand and have set priorities. As you can see for yourself, I have a good life in a year I can make up to Sh 5million.

Advice to young people.

Just know yourself and do not accept to be carried by a wave or trend. Identify your niche na uvumilie (persevere) I have been in the industry for 17 years, but I still believe that I will be able to conquer not only Kenya but also Africa and beyond.
