Award-winning gospel artiste, Dr Victor Mbuvi, has revealed how he came to compose his biggest hit Kwata Kawaya. The song, which was released in 2011, became a hit wheh he was actually going through very hard times.

In an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, Mbuvi said when he wrote the song’s lyrics, he was living at his friend’s place.

Insipte of the many adversities he was going through, the veteran artiste said he was oozing positivity that the song could help people rejoice in the Lord.

“I was inspired to write a song about a great day. A grand season. A beautiful time. Lifting your hands and praising the Lord. The song was inspired by Psalms 118:24 and Philippians 4:4,” he said.

“It is faith-driven. To praise God even when the odds are stacked against you. David used a harp and lyre to praise God. So since us Kambas we are known for playing guitar, I came up with Kwata which means hold Kawaya meaning strings like those in a guitar.”

Having faith that God would turn around the situation, Mbuvi said he then approached producer RK with the song, and although he was broke, the latter offered to house him as they made a complete album.

“The Bible says God will never put you to shame but that does not mean not going through some pitfalls.”

Mbuvi revealed that even his father did not know that he was homeless at the time. Although he was going through a hard time, the Nishike hitmaker believed that God would come through and change the situation.

When he released the album, the songs performed well in the market and he was able to stand on his feet again.

“I did not know the song would hit that much,” he said.
