Nairobi MCAs return from recess to debate crucial Bill on maandamano week
Nairobi County Assembly sittings will resume on Tuesday after a short recess in line with the County Assembly Calendar (Ordinary Sessions).
Members of the County Assembly will be returning with a lot on the table for them to debate.
Among the matters that will come before the House when it resumes is the Finance Bill, 2023, which was tabled by the CEC for Finance, Mr Charles Kerich prior to the adjournment.
The Bill has highlighted several areas that the County Governor Johnson Sakaja is targeting to finance his Sh42.3 billion budget that was recently signed into law.

According to the Finance CEC, the county is seeking to introduce seasonal on-street parking tickets for lorries, which will be charged on a monthly and annual basis, with the lowest cost being Sh1,000 for motorcycles outside the CBD area, while trailers outside the CBD will pay Sh675,000 for a 12-month ticket.
Establishment of waste collection and management saccos is yet another matter that is scheduled in the order paper for Tuesday.
Roysambu MCA Sospeter Mumbi is concerned by the fact that the implementation of waste management faces numerous challenges ranging from inadequate capacity to handle the challenge, corruption within and beyond the County Government.

Also, cartels and lethargic nature of County staff and citizenry faced with apathy and collective irresponsibility for waste management are among the challenges facing waste management in the county.
However, the sittings could be interrupted by the planned Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition demonstrations which will take place on Wednesday.
Azimio MCAs are the majority in Nairobi County Assembly, and just like previous protests, the quorum will not be attained.
In the last demonstrations, Majority Leader Mr Peter Imwatok led the Azimio MCAs calling for a peaceful demos, and that they would take action against demonstrators who would engage in theft and destruction of property.
