Rockstars FC eye FKF Division Two promotion
Tujiamini Cheza Dimba champions Rockstars FC were over the weekend darling of the fans after beating Nakalira FC 1-0 to inch closer to nailing the Football Kenya Federation Division Two promotion.
The Western Regional side were in a class of their own as they outwitted their opponents in the game attended by a sizable number of fans at Kamkuywa Primary School in Bungoma County.
Just like Gor Mahia, Rockstars is one of the community clubs benefiting from sponsorship with renowned gaming firm SportPesa under the Tujiamini programme.
The club has been receiving a Sh250,000 annual sponsorship and kits from the gaming firm which also sponsors top Kenyan football sides Gor and Murang’a Seal in the FKF PL.
The team currently lie fourth in the Western Regional league standings on 24 points and is well positioned to bag a series of successive wins in remaining matches to earn promotion to the FKF Division Two League.
Team Manager Ronald Mugera lauded Tujiamini Initiative saying the financial boost and kits from Sportpesa has given his players the motivation and hunger to fight for goals.
“The availability of resources has enabled us to focus on the qualifiers. Through the Tujiamini Programme we can now meet our needs and nurture the players we have in readiness for FKF Division Two League,” said Mugera.
Rockstar Captain Emmanuel Wanyonyi lauded the Sportpesa sponsorship via the Tujiamini Programme saying it is the secret behind the team’s success on the pitch.
“We had been struggling to attend some matches before but since we bagged this sponsorship, things have turned out differently and we can now focus on football,” said Mr Wanyonyi.
“As players we shall work hard to ensure that we get the results which can take us to the top league,” added Wanyonyi.
Bungoma County FKF Secretary General Caleb Amwayi, who was accompanied by Maurine Situma, the chairlady of the sub-branch of FKF Kimilili were among those who attended the match.
The officials commended Sportpesa for their support to Rockstars FC and called for corporate sponsorship to help struggling clubs in the region.
