Azimio ends City Hall standoff, picks Imwatok as Majority Leader

The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party has finally agreed on the list of MCAs who will be in charge of the affairs at the County Assembly.

This comes after some of the MCAs disagreed with the earlier list that had been forwarded to the Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi without following due process.

The Speaker, through a memo, announced the Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok as Majority Party Leader.

Imwatok will be deputized by Laini Saba Ward MCA John Ndile Musila.

Kilimani Ward MCA Moses Nyangaresi Ogeto is now the Majority Party whip, and will be deputized by Upper Savannah Ward MCA Stazo Omung’ala.

Azimio has also picked the Nominated MCA Catherine Apiyo Okoth for the prestigious post of County Assembly Service Board Member.

Azimio enjoys the majority leadership in the Assembly with 67 members as Kenya Kwanza of President William Ruto comes second with 53 members.

The speaker has equally asked the Kenya Kwanza team to present the names of its members who will be serving in the assembly.

“I still encourage the Kenya Kwanza Coalition, comprising of UDA and Chama Cha Kazi political parties which is the second largest coalition in the Assembly with 53 members to designate and communicate its leadership in the house so that we can commence our legislative agenda as soon as possible,” Speaker Ng’ondi said.

This comes as the members are expected to go for an induction process this week, which will take place in Mombasa.

Also, the eyes are on Governor Johnson Sakaja as he is expected to name his county cabinet soon after failing to name the team last week.

After naming his team, the MCAs will interview them to ensure that they are up to the task before taking the oath of office.

The governor also asked MCAs to work with him closely in order to deliver his promises to the Nairobi residents without conflict.
