Big shoes! 4 candidates tipped to replace Willis Raburu at Royal Media Services

One month ago, media personality Willis Raburu called it a day on his mainstream broadcast media career to take a breather. Willis left after working for Royal Media Services for 13 years before deciding to leave.

Before his departure, Willis played four key roles for the media house. He hosted three TV shows – Sporty Monday, Thursday’s What’s Cooking and 10/10 on late-night Fridays. On the radio, Willis also had a show and read news on weekends.

Four people had to be tapped to fill his shoes in the wake of his exit.

The week after his final shows, prime-time news anchor Serfine Achieng’ Ouma was tapped to host he cooking show. She joined RMS stable in 2022, a week after she moderated the notable Nairobi gubernatorial debate ahead of last year’s General Election.

The following Friday, comedian Oga Obinna (Steve Thompson Magana), hosted the show and celebrated it on social media.

“Another One! It’s such an honor to be here. Tonight I tick another dream off my to-do list. Always wanted to work at RMS on Citizen TV. Finally my dream has come true! I get to be on TV again as a host of the biggest TV show 10/10!” Obinna three days ago.

For the Sporty Monday show, Willis’s former co-host, Isaac Swila Tijan, has taken over as the host. The duo have been co-hosting the show for years, up until Willis left. Mr Swila, a former Daily Nation sports journalist, hit the ground running after replacing Raburu, thanks partly to his vast experience in sports journalism stretching over a decade.

For his mid-morning Rhythm Junction show from 10 am to 1 pm, Willis has been replaced by Terry Muikamba, a former radio presenter on Classic 105. Ms Muikamba was his co-host on the show before being given full run of the show. Over the years, Wills also hosted several other shows alone or with others, including Langata MP Phelix Odiwour aka Jalang’o.
