City man is mistaken for a serial killer in dramatic DCI arrest
A man who was over the weekend arrested in a mistaken identity goof by police has been released.
Mr Edward Kireeria was nabbed while he enjoyed drinks at a joint in Kitengela, Kajiado County on the night of Friday, October 7, 2022.
He was mistaken for a serial killer by the arresting officers.
He was nabbed after members of the public raised alarm saying that they had spotted Mr Lawrence Wuantai who is wanted for murdering two brothers over land disputes.
Mr Wuantai has been on the run for the last three weeks.

Mr Kireeria was taken into custody by sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and handed over to the regular police officers.
He was grilled for some hours before they opted to conduct an identification parade but members of the public and family said he was not the 26-year-old murder suspect.
In all identification parades conducted at Kajiado Police station, it emerged that the man was a look-alike who did not even have blood ties with the suspect.
Mr David Loronyokwe, who is the Kajiado Sub County police commander said that officers were satisfied that he was not the suspect they wanted.
“The man’s family came and helped us identify him. We conducted a thorough countercheck of his document besides the national identity card and that is why the identification process took long,” Loronyokwe said.

According to him, police officers were concerned after they were told that the murder suspect had been spotted at a joint and rushed to contain the situation because he had threatened to kill more family members.
Three weeks ago, Mr Wuantai fell out with the two brothers and ended up killing them in two separate incidents that took place at Purko in Kajiado Central.
He then announced that he was going into hiding but will go after everyone who will sympathise with the two brothers or their families.
