Dennis Okari: Why I didn’t pay dowry for my wife, Naomi

Media personality Dennis Okari recently shared insights into his unique and unconventional marriage with Naomi Joy.

During the Daughters of Zion (DOZ) meeting held at Jubilee Christian Church (JCC) on Saturday, June 24, Okari revealed that he never paid dowry for Naomi.

“I never paid dowry. When you enter into marriage, you learn that it’s like a transaction. My wife and I sat down, and I told her, ‘this is the money I have in my account.

If your uncles want to charge me 10 cows and other things, I don’t have that kind of money. So I’m going to give you a wedding, take you to a nice place for the honeymoon, and get you a house.

But for now, I don’t have this kind of money,'” Okari candidly shared.

He further revealed that his wife took matters into her own hands and spoke to her mother, requesting that no dowry be demanded from him.

The decision not to exchange dowry was a mutual one between Okari and Naomi Joy, demonstrating their shared understanding and commitment to their relationship.

Okari then recounted his experience visiting his in-laws, accompanied by his father and uncles.

To his surprise, when asked what dowry they expected, the response from Naomi’s family was “nothing.”

“They came out of the house and told me, ‘you’re the luckiest human being on earth. They didn’t ask for anything.’

The promise I made to my wife was, ‘I’ll do something for your mother,’ and a year later, I built her a new three-bedroom bungalow,” Okari revealed, illustrating his gratitude and desire to show appreciation to his wife’s family.

During the session, Kathy Kiuna also talked about the importance of open communication between couples when there is a misunderstanding.

“If you are married, you do not just pick up your bags and go. A toxic marriage can be healed if both parties want to be healed. Involve God and seek cancel, seek professional help and yes, you can get help. I can’t tell anyone to leave their marriage. But if you are not married and you are in a toxic relationship, leave it,” she said.
