Dubai-based Kenyan fitness coach blasts celebrities for shunning DJ Babu’s burial

The burial of DJ Babu, has sparked controversy as a Dubai-based Kenyan fitness coach, Patrick Owino, publicly called out popular local celebrities for their notable absence from the somber event.

The entertainer, who tragically lost his life in a road accident in Dubai, was laid to rest at his family’s residence in Murang’a County on August 11, 2023.

Patrick Owino, expressed his disappointment in the lack of attendance by prominent personalities from the entertainment industry.

He questioned their absence, suggesting it raises concerns about the level of support Kenyans abroad might receive in times of adversity.

“Out of all the celebrities who had their names in eulogies, only two showed up at the funeral,” lamented Owino, highlighting the apparent disconnection between public displays of association and genuine solidarity.

He continued, “Are you telling us you are only present when you stand to gain something? Are you telling Team Dubs that if we face a tragedy, we shouldn’t expect any support?”

Owino underlined that DJ Babu’s last public appearance was at a concert headlined by Khaligraph Jones.

He emphasized that Khaligraph should have made an effort to extend his condolences to DJ Babu’s family.

“This incident demonstrates that we, as Kenyans living abroad, should not readily attend events organized by these celebrities, whether in Dubai or anywhere else in the Gulf. If they are not there for us in our times of sorrow, why should we be there for their shows?”

DJ Pierra, businesswoman Amira and Kriss Darlin were among the mourners at the burial.

DJ Babu was a pioneering figure in the Kenyan music scene, and countless artists, entertainers, and fans will cherish his legacy.

He began his journey as a DJ in late 2008 and established Jamdown Dubai in 2013, where he actively promoted and supported the entertainment industry by creating connections and fostering a vibrant community around music.
