Ethiopia to provide first test for Kenyan team in Kampala


The national women volleyball team will commence its quest to qualify for the forthcoming All Africa Games with a clash against Ethiopia at the Lugogo MTN hall in Kampala next Tuesday.

According to the tentative fixtures released by the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) boss Nasiwu Sadiq, Kenya will thereafter line up against hosts Uganda, Burundi and Egypt in that order at the same venue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday respectively.

The top two from the five participating nations will earn slots at the 50th edition of the mulch-discipline continental games, slated for Congo Brazzaville in September.

EXPERIENCED SQUAD

Kenya coach David Lung’aho has named an experienced squad for this assignment that departs for Kampala by road on Sunday morning.

The team will be captained by veteran setter Janet Wanja, and includes debutants Joy Luseneka and Triza Atuka.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Chairman Waithaka Kioni and the team sponsors National Oil Corporation of Kenya Corporate Affairs Manager Temesi Mukani have in the meantime assured the of their support in what promises to be a busy calendar year.

The Kenyan team will also compete at the Africa Cup of Nations, FIVB Grand Prix and World Cup qualifiers this year.

Tentative  fixtures: Kenya v Ethiopia (Tuesday), Uganda v Kenya (Thursday), Kenya v Burundi (Friday), Kenya v Egypt (Saturday)
