Exclusive: Gaucho on why Raila has failed to clinch the presidency
Self-proclaimed Bunge la Mwananchi (people’s parliament) president Gaucho-born Calvince Okoth says Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s presidential ambitions have constantly been punctured by his friends with selfish needs.
Without mentioning names, the vocal Gaucho, in an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, stressed that most people who hang around Mr Odinga do not mean well.
“There are some individuals who are in Odinga’s inner circle who fail to offer support to him after they have obtained their agenda,” Gaucho told Nairobi News.
Gaucho, who has been instrumental in championing the Azimio protests aimed at lowering the cost of living, further argued that some people feel if Mr Odinga is elected president, he will resign from active politics, a situation that might make them irrelevant.
“There are some people who feel that Mr Odinga will distance himself from active politics as well as resign from being the party leader of ODM once he finishes serving as the president of the Republic of Kenya.”
He told Nairobi News that politicians are by nature very selfish people and only care about what they will achieve.
Mr Odinga, who has unsuccessfully contested for the presidency pon five occasions between 2007 and 2022, is also credited with uplifting several politicians.
It is believed he recently came to the aid of three of his diehard loyalists namely Gaucho, Nuru Okanga, and Charles Ooko MC Olonde when they were recently arrested and charged before court with planning an unlawful assembly.
Mr Odinga is also credited with offering Lang’ata lawmaker Phelix Odiwuor ‘Jalang’o’ an opportunity to join active politics.
Jalang’o successfully contested for the parliamentary seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket on his first attempt but soon after ditched Mr Odinga for President William Ruto.
Mr Odinga finished second behind President Ruto in the August 2022 polls.
