Exclusive: Milly Chebby: Trolls targeting my baby almost made me quit social media
Content creator Milly Chebby has disclosed her struggles with cyberbullying and the emotional toll it took on her, almost leading her to quit social media altogether.
The mother of one, known for her vibrant online presence, told Nairobi News that the most challenging aspect of navigating the digital space was when trolls targeted her beautiful daughter, Milla.
Milly shared, “Online was a toxic space for people back then. At least right now, people have accepted that this is a space where individuals can grow and build a career.”
She emphasized the need for grace to move forward successfully in the online realm, acknowledging challenges such as bullying about her weight.

Milly recounted her post-pregnancy body changes, adding nearly 40kgs, and the four-year journey it took for her body to signal readiness for weight loss.
Milly highlighted the importance of recognizing the uniqueness of each body and not internalizing negativity from online bullies.
Despite various trolling incidents, the one that deeply affected her was when someone targeted her baby online, expressing a disturbing wish for her child’s death.
Milly admitted that this distressing experience nearly led her to consider quitting social media.

Addressing the balance between family life and work commitments, Milly credited her supportive family and husband, who also serves as her manager.
She shared:
“They are the key people who hold me together.” Milly emphasized the importance of respecting her family’s privacy, even though they attend most events without being mentioned online.
Milly’s supportive online team and her mantra of giving her all in her work contribute to her resilience in the face of online challenges.

She acknowledged the biases in the online space and emphasized her focus on creating content without seeking external validation or awards.
“Even when there is too much for me to deal with, I also have a very supportive online team who fully believes in our dream. My mantra is just work and give it your all. This space of ours is very biased and it has squads and cartels and that is why, I never work for awards.”
