Full list of neighborhoods including Nairobi facing power blackouts


Ten counties, including Nairobi, will be affected by a power blackout today, Thursday, August 3, 2023, the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced.

In a statement on its Twitter handle, KPLC said that the power interruptions would result from normal maintenance.

“The listed areas will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow, August 3, 2023. The interruption is part of network maintenance,” KPLC said.

In Nairobi County, Nyari Estate will be affected by the power blackout. The specific areas include; Parts of Ngecha Road, Ibis Crescent, Ibis Drive, and adjacent customers.

Parts of Jogoo Road will also be affected by the power interruptions. The specific areas include; Mbotela, Somog Flats, Makongeni, Hamza, Buruburu Phase 5, St Anne’s, Christ is the Answer Ministry (CITAM) school, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), Naivas, Makadara Law Courts, Aquinas, Uhuru Market and adjacent customers.

Parts of Machakos County will also be affected by the power interruptions. The specific areas include; Airport Road, Katani Road, Mwananchi Road, Parliament Road, Chady Road, Kiungani Road, Community Road, and adjacent customers.

The areas of Tala in Kangundo will also be affected by the power blackout. The specific areas within Tala include; Tala Market, Kangundo Market, Kathui, Kivaani, Mathakutha, Katangini, Iviani, Kambusu and adjacent customers.

Nakuru County will also be affected by the scheduled power interruptions. The specific areas include; the whole of Kiamunyi and Baraka.

The specific places affected include; Londo, Edma, Olive Inn Center, Baraka Estate, Muiru Center, Mercy Njeri, Madrugada Farm, Bunda Cake, and adjacent customers.

Kisumu County will also be affected by the scheduled power interruptions. The specific places affected include; Chulaimbo Hospital, Daraja Mbili, Lela Market, Parts of Maseno Township, and adjacent customers.

Homabay County will also be affected by the power interruptions. The specific places include; Sena, Yokia, Wakula, Uozi, Ugina, Kitawi, Soklo, Karega, Wakula, and adjacent customers.

Nyeri County will also be affected by the power blackout. The specific areas include; Muirungi, Kihoya, Ngaru, Gatunguru Tea Factory, Kiru Tea Factory, Kihonya Market, Kairo Market, Kiambuthia Market, whole of Kiamuturia, Wanjere Market, Merereini Market, Mioro Market, Nyagathugu Market, Wanjere Forest Station, Kiawambogo village and adjacent customers.

Parts of Embu County will also be affected by the power interruptions. The specific areas that will be affected include; Kirie, Kiritiri, Kamburu, Kamugu, Kathanje, Kandomba, Nguthi, and adjacent customers.

Kiambu County will also be affected by the scheduled power interruptions. The specific areas include; Gachororo and Juja Mungetho.

More specific areas within Kiambu County include; Kariki Estate, Azania Farm, Kijito Estate, Mtaro Estate, Mashule Estate, Mutuma Estate, Allan Dashi, Mang’u Center, Mary Hill Girls’, Mang’u Road and adjacent customers.

Other areas in Kiambu County that will be affected by the power interruptions include; Parts of Mugumo, Kiu River Primary, Shooting Range, Small Farm, Uganda Road, and adjacent customers.

Mombasa County will also be affected by the power interruptions. To be precise, the affected areas include; Coast Water, Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), Weigh Bridge, and adjacent customers.

In Kilifi County, the affected areas will be; Tiwi Sokoni, Tiwi Boys’ High School, KD Hospital, and adjacent customers.

KPLC has been making such announcements since January 2023. Whenever there is a blackout, business people are affected and end up counting losses.
