Gor Mahia ‘reject’ Samuel Onyango set to join Zambia’s Kabwe Warriors
Gor Mahia striker Samuel Onyango is in Zambia to complete a move to Zambian Premier League side Kabwe Warriors. Onyango left Kenya earlier this week and is expected to sign a two-year contract with the club. He is likely to be unveiled on Monday or Tuesday by his new club.
The Harambee Stars forward was dumped by Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinistry two weeks ago after the youthful tactician said he was not part of his future plans with the team.
The 37-year-old Irish tactician said he had better players promoted from the youth team in the central striking position.
However, there were reports that the coach and the striker were not seeing eye to eye over disciplinary issues involving the 29-year-old forward.
Onyango, in an interview with Nation Sport, dismissed the reports but acknowledged that the coach had told him he was not part of his plans and the club had no intention of renewing his contract which was to end next month.

“Onyango is already in Zambia to join Kabwe Warriors. He is expected to sign a two-year contract and could be unveiled on Monday. I have been speaking to him and all is well,” said a player who is a close friend of the striker.
Kabwe Warriors was home to former Kariobangi Sharks striker Harrison Mwendwa but the forward left the team in July and joined Singida Big Stars. He has since left the Tanzania side.
But Onyango will not be lonely in his new club as Ugandan midfielder Hashim Sempala who won the Kenyan league with Tusker and also featured for Gor Mahia also plies his trade with the club.

Onyango played for 2010 champions Ulinzi Stars for three seasons (2015-2017) before joining Gor Mahia in 2018 under the then British Coach Dylan Kerr.
He began his career at the elite level in 2013 with the now defunct Sony Sugar youth team before breaking into the senior team.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia continued with its preparation for the new season as they beat fellow Football Kenya Federation Premier League side FC Talanta 3-0 on Saturday at Camp Toyoyo Grounds. K’Ogalo were on target via a first half penalty by midfielder Peter Lwasa and a second half brace from red-hot striker Benson Omala.
On Sunday Gor hosts Posta Rangers for another friendly at the same venue. McKinstry has been using the friendlies to gauge players promoted to the senior team as the club is still serving a Fifa ban and can’t recruit new players.
