HELB joins forces with NCPWD oversee educational support for disabled students

The Council and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) is spearheading an educational support drive for disabled students pursuing higher education and training.

As a result, HELB will manage the disbursement of grants from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) for students in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), as well as universities. This will be done through the newly established NCPWD Education Grant Scheme. Furthermore, HELB will offer the highest possible bursaries and loans to these students, regardless of the amount provided.

In a circular, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, in partnership with HELB, has announced the opening of applications for the first-ever 2023-2023 National Council for Persons with Disabilities Education Grant Scheme.

This new collaboration aims to address several issues. Firstly, it will eliminate duplications in support, ensuring that assistance reaches a wider audience. Secondly, it will establish consistency in the provision of support across academic years. Lastly, it will facilitate data generation, sharing, and analysis, which will be invaluable for establishing career progression and mentorship programs. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance the employability of graduates with disabilities.

To qualify for this grant scheme, applicants must meet certain criteria. Secondly, they should be enrolled in approved undergraduate, TVET, college, or private institution courses recognized by relevant government agencies.
