How Evangelist Lucy Wangunjiri met the love of her life, Lameck Ngunjiri

From a house girl, to selling second hand clothes, to being a sales person, Evangelist Lucy Wangunjiri has seen it all. She is now a preacher and a celebrated media personality. She is also a gospel radio presenter, as the host of Itaha Ria Muoyo on Kameme FM.

Her gospel show is one of the most listened to among listeners of Kikuyu radio stations.

Born and raised in Muthithi, Muranga County, Evangelist Wangunjiri, is also a wife and a mother.

The preacher has now recounted how she met the father of her children at a time she co-rented a house with the lady friend.

“A guy, who apparently turned out to be her colleague, used to visit us. I thought he was the boyfriend. Little did I know he was eyeing me,” Evangelist Wangunjiri narrated on Thursday in an interview with fellow Kameme FM presenter.

To her surprise, the friend decided to spill the beans.

“The gentleman is my colleague and he is dying for you,” the friend told her.

But Wangunjiri was somehow reluctant to get involved with men at that point in her life.

“I never wanted to hear about men because of the challenges my dad put us through. He could even beat up my mum,” she said.

The gentelman, who introduced himself as Lameck Ngunjiri, eventually gathered courage to make his move.

Despite the initial rejection, he never gave up. He persisted and went to the extent of proposing to Wangunjiri.

At the time, Wangunjiri was only 23 years old while the male suitor was 29 years old.

“I was so mad at him. One day he requested I visit his parents. To my surprise, the father was a very prayerful man and I ended up changing my hard stand. I admired the family, and said to myself – I will not leave this home,” she narrated.

The hunter became the hunted. The young Wangunjiri then asked the man to come meet her parents.

“The rest, as they say, is history. Mr Lameck Ngunjiri became the ambassador of my heart, life, and more importantly, the father of my two children,” Evangelist Wangunjiri said.

But their marriage, like all other marriages, has had its own ups and downs.

The founder and senior pastor at Prayers Beyond Ministry in Ngara, Nairobi, recalled how she once ‘escaped’ the union because her husband did not acknowledge her diligence at Kameme FM while her fans showered her praises.

She later went back to her matrimonial home and mended her marriage.
