List of Nairobi estates experiencing water shortages due to flooding

Residents of several estates in the sprawling Eastlands area will be without water for a few days after floods damaged a major pipeline.

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company said there would be an interruption in water supply after the water main was swept away by floods.

“We wish to inform our customers that the water main along the Outer Ring Road at Ngong River Crossing in Kware has been washed away,” Nairobi Water said.

Affected estates include Tassia, Nyayo Estate, Embakasi Village, Park Estate 1&2, Pipeline and Plot 10 Estates, Embakasi Jua Kali and surrounding areas.

Heavy rains have continued to batter Nairobi, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Torrential rains and flooding have destroyed homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure across the country.

Floods and landslides across Kenya have killed 181 people since March and forced hundreds of thousands from their homes, the government and the Red Cross said on Wednesday.

Kenya’s National Highway Authority on Wednesday, May 1, closed a section of the Thika Superhighway and at least three other roads across the country due to flooding and debris.

The heavy rains and flooding have displaced 188,000 people, prompting the government to set up a displacement camp to provide alternative accommodation.

Rescuers fear the death toll could rise as more heavy rain is expected this week, with flooding and landslides predicted in some areas.
