Sifuna to PS Omollo: Stop distributing beans in Raila’s stronghold
ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has castigated Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo over the worsening insecurity in Lamu County.
The senator alleged that the PS was so much involved in influencing ODM supporters from Nyanza region, the party’s stronghold, to join the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party of President William Ruto.
He said Interior Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki needed enough support from his PS to ensure maximum security for Lamu residents after several recent attacks by the Alshabaab militia.
“I asked you if you know the Interior CS, and you said that you know him. But he has his deputy called Raymond Omollo, who you don’t know. He has the PS who rarely comes here to knw the level of security,” Sifuna said.
The Senator alleged that some of the people whom President Ruto appointed to his cabinet were just picked to fill the positions as his allies.
“When was the last time that you came to Lamu? He is busy daily distributing beans and rice in Nyanza, thinking that will attract ODM supporters to the government.”
During the party meeting in Lamu attended by ODM leader Raila Odinga, Sifuna claimed that the PS was busy holding village meetings in some parts of Nyanza, when insecurity remains a torn issue in Lamu.
His remarks come one week after a section of professional youth from the South Nyanza region came out to defend the PS and other officials in the government.
The youth claimed that the government has done a lot for the Nyanza people, despite voting largely to the opposition side during the 2022 election.
They also asked the ODM party to cease political balkanization in the Nyanza region, which they said has seen the region being left behind for the last decades as it remains on the opposition side while other parts of the country benefit from the government of the day.
