Nightclub nightmare: Thieves bind guard, rob city hotspot for 2 hours
In a plot worthy of a crime thriller, a meticulously executed robbery left a new club in Nairobi’s Industrial Area stripped of electronics and spirits worth a staggering Sh6.2 million.
The cunning culprits, like shadows in the night, not only vanished with the loot but tied up the club’s security guard and covered his mouth with polythene paper staffed h setting the stage for a crime caper that unfolded on January 10, 2024, just days before the club’s grand opening on January 24.
The cunning mastermind, who hired a lorry to carry out the heist, remains at large, orchestrating a criminal plan that involved at least five individuals.
Two alleged accomplices, Eric Mwangi and Timothy Ng’ang’a, now find themselves in custody at the South B police station, while a third suspect, Duncan Oluoch, is under investigation for post-robbery communications with the mastermind.
The police arrived at the scene and rescued the tied-up security guard after a prolonged two-hour ordeal in a dark room.

Corporal Horace, Arwa of South B police station, secured a 14-day detention order from the Makadara Law Courts for Mwangi and Ng’ang’a, pending further investigations.
Adding a layer of intrigue, two security guards implicated in aiding the robbery removed their uniforms and disappeared into the shadows. Police are actively seeking their whereabouts to unravel the full extent of the plot.
The police collected the security guards’ uniforms as exhibits in the case.
“They captured one of the security guards, assaulted him, tied him on both arms and legs, tied up his mouth with a polythene paper, placed him in a dark room and further threatened to kill him if he raises any alarm,” Corporal Arwa stated in an affidavit filed at the Makadara Law Courts.
The stolen goods, transported by the lorry to Kariobangi, is yet to be traced, as the turn boy in custody led officers to an empty drop-off point in Bahati estate. The driver escaped during the arrest.
The plot thickens as police discover a second lorry involved in the scheme. Police learnt that the items were loaded into another lorry and taken away after the group that delivered them left, and taken elsewhere to ensure that those involved in stealing them don’t know where they were taken and those who collected them at the place don’t know where they had been brought from.
The mastermind of the robbery who hired the lorry at Sh30, 000 has been identified and police sources say he is on the radar, and his residence in Nairobi has been identified. He is now under close surveillance.
With over Sh400,000 received on the night of the robbery, suspicions arise about a ready market for the stolen items.
Corporal Arwa said he is yet to record a statement of the guard assaulted during the robbery and obtain his medical reports and P3 form.
