Sweet talking Nairobi conman arrested after woman tricks him
Police have arrested a notorious fraudster who has allegedly obtained millions of shillings from clients after pretending that he was in a position to help them import second hand motor vehicles from Japan.
The suspect, who is reported be using different names in his con games, is being detained at Gigiri Police Station after one of his victims, who he conned close to Sh3 million tricked him into police hands.
The man, who police plan to charge in a Kiambu court Monday, has only been targeting women in his well-connected racket in which he is believed to be working with his alleged wife who works at a local bank.
The fraudster’s con games date as far back as 2013, and according to his victims, he has been in and out of police custody as well as the courts, but nothing seems to stop him.
HARDLY ARRESTED
His victims allege that he works in cahoots with some officers, who protect him, saying he is hardly arrested, and if they do, he is released on petty cash bail and disappears without going on trial.
Warrants of arrest have also been issued against him for absconding two cases in court.
A victim, who says she has lost close to Sh3 million, said she got his contacts in February, 2017, on the Internet while searching for a branding firm.
She said she bumped into a firm, which is one of the several owned by the suspect, and using contacts on the website, she reached him.
Though they never did business, she kept in touch with the suspect, who after a few months informed her that he also imports vehicles although she was not interested.
IRRESISTIBLE OFFERS
Around October, the suspect, who the woman described as a persistent sweet talker told her that there was a mass car sale in Japan and gave her irresistible offers.
He sent photos of different cars, and after being convinced by the man who at the time she had met twice, settled on one and they signed an agreement for the transaction.
She made payments as directed by the suspect but never got the vehicle.
Enquiries were met with lame excuses and sometimes arrogant responses. She tricked him into another deal that got him arrested last week.
