Uganda Parliament Speaker Anita Among, 49, welcomes twins months after Pope’s prayer
Uganda Parliament Speaker Ms Anita Annet Among, 49, welcomed twins earlier this week.
The announcement was made in Parliament by her deputy, Mr Thomas Tayebwa.
In a follow-up statement, Ms Among and her family announced to the world that mother and children were faring well.
“We send our sincere appreciation to all our distinguished leaders, colleagues from Parliament, friends, and family for your prayers and outpouring of love. We may not be able to respond to each and everyone of you but we surely feel your love! Mother, father, and the twins are doing great and we pray that the Almighty God blesses you all abundantly!” read a statement on Ms Among’s official X account.
News of her welcoming her bundles of joy was well received in Uganda.
“Rt Hon Deputy Speaker, thank you and allow me to join all Ugandans to celebrate and congratulate my sister, the Rt. Hon Speaker Nalongo Anita Among and thank her for giving my grand son Hon Magogo another great name Salongo. Congratulations, May God bless you and our new babies,” said Uganda Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
“With great Joy, I congratulate my brother Moses Magogo and my sister the Rt. Hon Speaker Anitah Among upon the double bundle of joy. You are now Ssalongo and Nnalongo. Congratulations once again,” added Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.
“Congratulations to my friend Anitah Among and also our esteemed Speaker of Parliament on this beautiful addition to their family. Children truly are a blessing, and those who nurture them are equally special. #Blessings,” said Buikwe MP Mutasingwa Diana Kagyenyi.
Ms Among welcomed her children about two months after Pope Francis blessed her belly while she was on official visit to the Vatican in August 2023. In a video of their interaction, it was at one point during their interaction that Ms Among hinted at being pregnant.
She and the Pope had been speaking when she asked for blessings for her baby to which the surprised and delighted Pope proceeded to accommodate her wish.
“I’m also pregnant, I want you to bless my baby,” Speaker Among could be heard saying.
The Pope then made a sign of the cross next to her belly as he said a blessing for the unborn baby before he also blessed the Museveni’s marriage.
Ms Among is the third wife of her husband, Member of Parliament Moses Magogo Hassim. The wed in 2022 in a private Kampala ceremony. He is also the President of the Uganda Football Association; and both are known to lead lavish lifestyles.
So lavish are their lifestyles that it was no problem for Ms Among to court controversy and drama when she dropped Sh 22 million for her husband’s birthday gift, a Range Rover Vogue 2022 edition.
