Vanessa Mdee: Depression and family life forced me take a break from music
US-based Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee has said took a music sabbatical to raise a family and save her mental situation.
The Tanzanian songbird took a sabbatical at a time when her career was flourishing in her homeland and Kenya as well.
She then moved to the United States to be close to her fiancé singer and actor Rotimi and it’s been three years now since she last released a record.
In a recent live Instagram session with her fans, the mother of two denied that she has quit music altogether, maintaining that she is only taking a break to raise her young family.
“I took a break from music because I got into depression and I needed a change so I took time to take care of my mental health. At the same time, I wanted to raise a family but to say I have quit music that is not true. This God-given gifted music is in my blood it’s something I can’t quit,” Vanessa said.
Vanessa took a break after a nasty breakup with on-and-off boyfriend singer Juma Jux.
Juma Jux is on record saying that he was dumped by Vanessa. Shortly after that breakup, Vanessa got hitched to Rotimi.
In a past interview, Vanessa explained that she felt her relationship with Jux was stagnating and that even after being together for a long time they hadn’t gotten to the next level.
