Ngei Estate residence to Nairobi Water: We won’t pay our water bills!
Residents at Ngei Estate Nairobi have declared that they will not pay water bills until Nairobi Water restores the water supply within the estate.
The residents have raised complaints that they have been receiving dirty water which can pose health problems to them.
They now want Nairobi Water to compensate them for the dirty, unclean and unhealthy water they have been receiving.
“They have been supplying us with dirty water, our health is at stake and that is why we want Nairobi Water to compensate us. We are also not going to pay the water bills,” said Purity Wafula, one of the residents.
Erick Omollo, 60, a resident also said that he is forced to buy water miles away because they have children and they have to do the daily chores.
“I have to come home early to buy water. You cannot cook, drink or do laundry with dirty water. This is why we need our water system to be restored,” stated Christine.

Addressing the press today at Ngei 2 grounds, the Chairman of the Association Leedy Kipkoech pleaded with the Nairobi governor-elect, Johnson Sakaja to disband Nairobi Water and bring new leadership that is responsive to the plight of the stakeholders.
He also asked Sakaja to ‘clean up’ the Nairobi Water leadership as a way of improving the delivery of services to the community.
Ngei Estate is one of the oldest estates in Nairobi having been established in 1972 and has continued to experience water challenges.
The over 400 homes have over 2000 residents and it has been a fertile ground for water vendors who sell water between Sh3000 and Sh5000 depending on one’s capacity.
The area residents get water once a week with the bills piling up to more than Sh2000 depending on the user’s capacity.
There has been a water crisis in various estates within Nairobi and the residents are expecting Sakaja to fit into the big shoe to solve the water and sanitation problems within the Capital City.
