Prison Break: Killers of Kirinyaga University student escaped
Police officers in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County on the afternoon of Monday, October 10, 2022, launched a manhunt for two prisoners who successfully managed to escape from prison.
Nairobi News has established that in the wee hours of Monday morning, three inmates escaped from Kerugoya prisons but one of them was nabbed moments later.

All three had been arrested and are accused of committing murder.
“The three managed to escape the prison but one of them was captured moments later. Police officers are still in pursuit of the other two whose whereabouts remain unknown,” said Mr Mathew Mangira, the Kirinyaga County Commander.
Reports that some inmates had escaped from the prison forced Commissioner of Prisons Mr John Warioba to pay a visit to the correction facility.
Mr Warioba is said to have discussed ways in which security would be maximized at the facility in order to curb a similar incident from taking place.
The trio is accused of killing a Kirinyaga University student early this year in what was termed a series of insecurity incidents within areas surrounding the institution.

They were to appear before the Kerugoya High Court on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
Sources privy to the matter said that the three had attempted to escape mid-last week but were captured by hawk-eyed security agents manning the prison.
Cases of suspects escaping from police stations and from prison have been on the increase in the recent past.
It is to this effect that former Commissioner of Prisons General Wycliff Ogallo was sacked after three terror suspects escaped from the Kamiti Maximum Prison.
Late last year, days after the three terror suspects escaped from prison, President Kenyatta revoked Mr Ogallo’s appointment as the Commissioner of Prisons.
The three terror suspects identified as Joseph Juma Odhiambo, Mohamed Abdi Ali Abikar and Musharaf Abdalla alias Shukri vanished from Kamiti Maximum prisons on November 15.
