DP Rigathi Gachagua reunites with High School teacher
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reunited with his High School Principal after close to four and a half decades.
The DP took the opportunity to reflect on his life as a student at Kianyaga High School and thanked Mr Julius Ndumbi, the headmaster for mentoring him.
Gachagua, who is the second highest-ranking politician in the country, noted he was groomed to be a leader during his time in High School. He thanked Mr Ndumbi for mentoring him.
“A strict disciplinarian. Tough. Loving. Wise. A father figure, a role model,” he said.
Always grateful to those who mentored me in one way or another and played a significant role in shaping me and preparing me for leadership and for the future.

Born on 28 February 1965, the DP initially enrolled at Kabiruini primary school from 1971 to 1977 before proceeding to Kianyaga High School for his O and A levels.
He then joined the University of Nairobi and he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Literature in 1988.

After graduating, Gachagua was employed for a short time at Kenya’s Ministry of Home Affairs and National Heritage before he joined Administration Police Institute in 1990.
After graduating from the Administration Police Institute, he was posted at the Office of the then-President the late Daniel Arap Moi, as a District Officer Cadet between 1991 and 1992.
Gachagua then went on to serve as a District Officer in Kakamega, Ng’arua, and Laikipia districts.
Between 1999 and 2000, he joined the Kenya School of Government where he graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Public Administration. Between 2001 and 2006, he worked as the Personal Assistant to Uhuru Kenyatta, the fourth President of the Republic of Kenya.
Between 2007 and 2017, Gachagua remained behind the scenes running his businesses then switched again to politics when he was elected as the Mathira MP.
As a lawmaker, Gachagua served till 2022 when he contested with President William Ruto as his running mate.
He is known for an outspoken, aggressive, and sometimes abrasive style of politics.
