Electricity token purchase via M-Pesa and USSD code disrupted


Kenya Power Company has announced that it is experiencing a network failure which has resulted in the unavailability of some services.

The utility firm in a statement said system hitch in the purchase of electricity tokens via M-Pesa was due to a network breakdown from the service provider.

“Consequently, some of our services such as the purchase of prepaid tokens through M-Pesa and USSD Code *977# are unavailable. We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused,” the firm said.

It advised customers to purchase tokens from the firm’s banking halls, Airtel Money and authorised banks as it works to restore the affected services as soon as possible.

The power provider assured its customers that they are working to resolve the issue and apologised for the same.

“We are working with our service provider to restore the affected services as soon as possible,” Kenya Power said.

The statement comes as thousands of Kenyans are currently unable to purchase electricity through the utility firm’s pre-paid token system, which has plunged them into darkness and affected households and businesses across the country.
