Embakassi woman on the spot for assaulting husband’s lover

A woman who allegedly scald her husband’s ex-girlfriend with an iron box at her house in Nairobi was charged with causing grievous harm in contravention of section 234 of the Penal Code.

Anelly Akinyi, 23, is accused of causing serious injuries to Ms Sharon Adhiambo, 19, at the Jua Kali area in Embakasi on June 25, 2023.

Ms Adhiambo had gone to visit Ms Akinyi who had called her to her house claiming there was a matter that had called for her attention.

Ms Akinyi had previously accused Ms Adhiambo of having an affair with her husband.

Upon arrival, Ms Adhiambo found the accused person ironing clothes.

The accused person ushered the complainant into her house and allegedly took a knife immediately and told her to make her final call to her parents because that was her last day to be seen alive.

Ms Akinyi allegedly took Ms Adhiambo’s phone and removed the SIM card which she dropped into a water bucket.

She then allegedly tied Ms Adhiambo with a rope and pushed her onto her bed while armed with a knife which she slightly injured the complainant with on the neck.

The accused person allegedly took the red hot iron and used it to burn the complainant on the head, thighs and hands before she was rescued by a caretaker at the building and other tenants who intervened after she screamed for help.

The complainant proceeded to hospital after she was rescued and later reported the incident at the Embakasi police station. Ms Akinyi was later traced and arrested after investigations.

She denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi of Makadara Law Courts.

The suspect was released on a bond of Sh70, 000 without an option of a cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on August 15, 2023, paving way for hearing on September 21, 2023.
