Ex-Papa Shirandula actor Njoro raises concern over decline of clean content

Former Papa Shirandula actor Njoro, whose real name is Ken Gichoya, is urging Kenyans to embrace clean content on social media.

In a recent interview with Jeff Kuria, the popular actor expressed concern that while a wealth of clean content is available, many Kenyans seem more drawn to inappropriate and explicit material.

Njoro believes that the main problem in the entertainment industry is the shift towards content that lacks value and ethical standards.

He expressed concern that some content creators disregard cultural beliefs and focus solely on gaining views and numbers on social media platforms.

“It is a rotten generation,” Njoro lamented.

He cited the example of content creators who gain millions of viewers by posting explicit or morally questionable content, while those producing family-friendly and clean content struggle to gain recognition.

“I have 40k followers, yet I have very clean content, and on the other end, someone who twerks naked on the same platform even without showing their face has millions of viewers. That shows what our people want,” he explained.

Njoro believes this trend is destructive and poses a threat to future actors and the entertainment industry as a whole.

He highlighted the importance of preserving cultural values and ethics in content creation and expressed concern that the hunger for immorality is eroding these values.

The actor also reminisced about the days when shows like “Papa Shirandula” portrayed family-oriented content that appealed to a broad audience.

He stressed that such programs were entertaining and contributed positively to society.

“Those making family content are no longer valued. If you look at a program like Papa Shirandula, you will see the family aspect of it. It was food for a whole family. It is a challenge that might affect our future generation.”

When asked if any of his children had followed in his acting footsteps, Njoro mentioned that acting is no longer as prominent in mainstream media.

However, he shared that his daughter has taken an interest in content creation, suggesting that the entertainment industry is evolving, with social media becoming a platform of choice for many aspiring artists and creators.
