Excitement among Gor fans amid leaked images of new bus
20 times Kenya Premier League winners Gor Mahia have a new state-of-the-art bus inbound for the team’s official use.
In leaked images seen by Nairobi News, the 60-seater bus is undergoing its final preparations at an unknown location before it is released to the team.
The bus is painted and branded in the team’s colors and logos
Nairobi News also understands that Mr Eliud Owalo, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy in Kenya, purchased the bus for the club in a bid to fulfill a promise he previously made to Gor Mahia in September 2023.
The images elicited excitement among Gor Mahia’s fans who jubilated that the team finally had an official vehicle after years of not having their own, but outsourcing.
“What will they say when they see it! #Nyangumi,” said one fan.
Another fan said, “Bwana we have been flying. Let us also feel how you have been feeling on the ground.”
“Gor Mahia will use this bus to carry harvested goals from around the republic. Ingwe, though, uses theirs to carry goals conceded,” taunted another fan.
This purchase comes after a spell of the Gor Mahia Football Club enduring financial difficulties for months. The club initially had a minibus for the team’s use but it was reportedly auctioned by a player who was owed arrears following his successful legal battle against the club.
CS Owalo, in his generosity and unwavering loyalty to Gor, has been spending millions on the club, going as far as gifting staff and fans millions in allowances and bonuses.
In April 2023, CS Owalo gifted the club’s players Sh 800,000 as a winning bonus following their victory in the last five league matches.
“I watched the game against Kenya Police at the weekend and was impressed with the team’s performance. I urge the club’s management not to make many changes to the playing unit. These players can emulate the squad of 1987…I recently had a meeting with the Executive Committee and observed that the challenges at the club are not insurmountable. I will reach out to partners and friends in the private sector and ensure Gor Mahia has a quality bus. Should you win the league, we will also strive to ensure we have an additional sponsor for the continental matches,” CS Owalo told the club at an April breakfast meeting.
