EXCLUSIVE: Afadhali Otile! Vaida star Harry Richie on Vera Sidika, Brown Mauzo split

By Winnie Mabel September 1st, 2023 2 min read

Kenyan vernacular singer Harry Richie of the famed Vaida hit song gave his sentiments on the just ended relationship between singer Brown Mauzo and socialite Vera Sidika.

Speaking exclusively to Nairobi News earlier today, Mr Richie said he had never liked Brown Mauzo and his relationship with Vera Sidika didn’t sit well with him.

“I don’t support that marriage with Brown Mauzo. I supported her relationship with Otile Brown. Personally, I don’t like Brown Mauzo…he’s just a guy who is just there. He’s never wronged me but I just don’t like him. Vera is our Luhya girl and we want her to get married to someone we want from Luhya land. Otile Brown was the best match because he is our in-law so he can marry our Luhya girl,” said Mr Richie.

The Luhya and Luo tribes (where Otile Brown is a member) are considered in-laws due to their shared county borders in Western Kenya and high numbers of intermarriages between the two tribes. Without marriage, some members of the two tribes call each other shemeji (in-law) during conversations.

Mr Richie also said that if Otile and Vera did not re-unite, then she should either remain single or marry him (Richie).

Vera Sidika and sensational musician Otile Brown broke up 2018 after a whirlwind romance that hooked their fans. Otile Brown went on to release a it love song title Baby Love and featured Vera Sidika as his love interest. The song amassed 18 million views on his YouTube channel. He told a media outlet that he and Vera Sidika became friends again a year after breaking up and are on speaking terms.

Following their break up, Vera Sidika was later romantically linked to Brown Mauzo. They secretly dated for a few weeks before they were outed and they confirmed their relationship. Without any receipts, they claimed they had married in secret and went on to conceive two children- Asia Brown who should be turning two in October and Ice Brown who was born in March 2023.

Yesterday, Brown Mauzo issued a statement regarding their breakup.

“Dear friends and supporters, I wanted to take a moment to share some personal news. After much consideration, Vera Sidika and I have decided to part ways. Our journey together has been filled with unforgettable moments, but we have reached a point where it’s best for both of us and our babies, Asia Brown and Ice Brown, to move forward separately.

We want to thank you all for your unwavering love and support throughout our relationship. Your encouragement has meant the world to us. As we embark on this new chapter, we kindly ask for your understanding and respect for our privacy during this time. Though our paths may diverge, we will always cherish the memories we’ve created together. We both remain grateful for the lessons learned and the growth we’ve experienced. Our focus now is on healing and embracing the future with open hearts. Thank you once again for being a part of our journey,” said Brown Mauzo.
