Gen Z popular stars rule AFRIMMA nomination list 2022

The African Music Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) will finally host a physical music award ceremony in Dallas, Texas, in the United States after virtually hosting it for two years. The covid-19 pandemic occasioned this.

In a statement to newsrooms, the organizers revealed that the ceremony would be held on November 19, 2022, and the show was themed ‘This is Africa’ in an effort to consolidate the growth of the previous award ceremonies and the massive growth of the African music culture.

“African music is the new oil, everybody wants a bit of it. AFRIMMA is committed to promoting African music on the biggest stage, and celebrating and rewarding excellence.” Anderson Obiagwu, the AFRIMMA founder said.

In their announcement, AFRIMMA also released the 2022 nomination list featuring big African stars, including Rema, Burna Boy, Sauti Sol, and Otile Brown, among many others.

Most of the nominees had big popular and viral hits on TikTok.

Below is the list of Kenyan artistes nominated and their corresponding categories:

  1. Khaligraph Jones- Best Male East Africa
  2. Otile Brown- Best Male East Africa
  3. Femi One- Best Female East Africa
  4. Jovial- Best Female East Africa
  5. Ssaru- Best Newcomer
  6. Sauti Sol- Best Live Act
  7. Femi One- Best Female Rap Act
  8. Fena Gitu- Best Female Rap Act
  9. Marioo X Jovial- Mi Amor- Best Collaboration
  10. Enos Olik- Best Video Director
  11. DJ Shinski- Best African DJ USA
  12. DJ Poison Ivy- Best African DJ USA
  13. Jamal Ghadafi – Radio/TV Personnel of the Year

“Celebrating African music and African musicians have been the fuel behind AFRIMMA Awards, and the body has consistently uplifted African music on the world stage since its inception.

So, this year is set to be another chapter in history, as African stars hoist their country’s flags in different categories of nominations.” AFRIMMA organizers added.

The Kenyan nominees are up against other big names, including Diamond Platinumz, Fally Ipupa, DJ Maphorisa, Oxlade, Tiwa Savage, Meddy, Zuchu, Wizkid, Kizz Daniel, Rema, and Yemi Alade, among a host of others in various categories.
