In 2018, Kenyans were introduced to Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu, a high-profile security detail for very important persons, after he was accused of killing businesswoman Monica Kimani.

Alongside him, his then fiancé, former Citizen Television prime-time news anchor Jackie Maribe was also implicated in the crime.

The criminal case gripped the nation as details slowly emerged regarding the gruesome murder and how the duo allegedly tried to cover it up.

The duo was vilified and spent months in and out of jail and court until they were granted bail as the hearings proceeded. To date, the late Monica Kimani’s family is yet to obtain justice as the case drags on in court.

Prior to this killing, Jowie was known for providing security detail to high-profile Kenyans including politicians such as former Taita Taveta woman representative Joyce Lay.

During the court hearings, the duo fell from grace to grass as their lives fell apart. Of the two, Jowie spent more time behind bars until his release.

It would appear that he is now making a comeback into the private security industry after he hinted as much on November 7, 2022.

In a series of Instagram stories, he referred to himself as a “top security consultant” as a caption to a photo of himself inside a vehicle.

In his ear, he donned an earpiece commonly used by a security detail to communicate among themselves during operations.

“You’ve always shared the little you have with me bruv, forever grateful. May God share with you your heart’s desires king,” Jowie captioned the video in a message to Thomas ‘Big Ted’ Kwaka who served as a senior aide in former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s office at State House.
