‘It never worked…’ why Muigai Wa Njoroge’s first wife Njeri quit polygamous marriage

Njeri, the first wife of controversial gospel singer Muigai wa Njoroge, has dropped a bombshell about their marriage, disclosing that she decided to quit the polygamous union after 12 years.

During an interview with Kameme FM, Njeri Muigai spoke openly about the challenges in her marriage when asked if she was still married to the gospel artist.

“Tulishindwa! Ati am I married? Not anymore! Not anymore! We tried, I don’t want to blame anyone because we tried, but unfortunately, it never worked, and that is the saddest thing. It never worked, anger became the danger.”

Acknowledging Muigai wa Njoroge as a responsible father, Njeri mentioned that they tried but realized the relationship was taking a toll on her well-being.

She expressed concerns about the potential return to alcoholism and emphasized the need to prioritize her own happiness.

“He is a responsible man and he takes care of his children. We tried but I realized I will be a sad person as it had started taking a toll on me again and I was going back to alcoholism,” she said.

“Everything happening to me is divine. It happens for a reason. Whatever happened, I believe it was divine,” she added.

Njeri refrained from disclosing specific details regarding legal proceedings or the timeline of events surrounding their separation.

Njeri Muigai says the journey through the pain of separation is deeply connected to her childhood experiences and her aversion to polygamy.

Growing up in a household with her father’s two households, polygamy was a source of apprehension for Njeri Muigai.

In February 2021, Muigai wa Njoroge addressed the public scrutiny surrounding his polygamous marriage during Mighty Salim’s burial.

He defended his life choices, stating, “Me having a second wife is not a sin,” and emphasized the need to let public figures live their lives without judgment.

“You want me to grow old so I can get a second one? I am not a nun. Let us live our lives. I loved her (Second wife) and I could not live her to stray around with my kids.”

However, in a recent interview, Njeri disclosed the emotional turmoil she faced after learning about her husband’s intention to take on a second wife.

The revelation led her into a dark period of alcoholism and depression.

Njeri Muigai, now seemingly composed, clarified that her calm demeanor today is a result of the extensive time she took to process the bitterness that initially consumed her.

“Now people want me not to behave the right way, but they don’t know I already reacted to this matter,” she said.
