Kenya partners with Commonwealth ahead of Kenya Innovation Week


The roadmap to Kenya Innovation Week has started with a partnership from the Commonwealth following the unveiling event that took place on Wednesday at Sarova Panafric Hotel.

The Kenya Innovation Week will take place from November 27th to December 1st this year at the Kenya College of Insurance.

During the launch, Ambassador Joseph Busiega, who represented Prime Cabinet Secretary Musala Mudavadi, lauded the steps made by the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) in promoting the development and uptake of innovation.

“Today, we are delighted to announce the official call for partners and exhibitors for the Kenya Innovation Week 2023. We invite other governments, organizations, institutions, and individuals who share our vision and passion for innovation to join hands with us and become active contributors to this remarkable event,” Mudavadi said in a statement read on his behalf by Ambassador Busiega.

He said the Kenya Network of Entrepreneurial Institutions’ Leaders (KNEIL) network will serve as a platform for leaders from local universities, colleges and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETs) Centres to share best practices and collaborate in fostering vibrant national entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Mudavadi also said President William Ruto’s administration believes in the idea of innovations which will lead to the prosperity of the nation. He added that the Global Innovation Index had become a critical benchmark, measuring the innovative capacity and performance of nations across the world.

In his remarks, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, who was represented by his Principal Secretary Engineer Peter Tum, announced that KeNIA will be implementing the highly anticipated Presidential Innovation Award – Youth Edition, a programme which is an integral module of the Talanta Hela initiative.

“Through the Innovation Challenge, we will provide a platform for young Kenyans to showcase their innovative ideas and research outputs. This challenge will not only recognize outstanding achievements but also provide funding and mentorship opportunities to transform these ideas into reality,” Namwamba said.

The CS the finalists of the Presidential Innovation Award will have the privilege to pitch their ideas at the prestigious Commonwealth Startup Festival that will be part of Kenya Innovation Week later this year.

“In addition, His Excellency the President will award them during the Jamhuri Day celebrations on the 12th of December 2023. This momentous event will serve as a testament to the unwavering support our government provides to the youth in their pursuit of innovation and excellence,” Namwamba said.

During Innovation Week, there will be pavilions for each of the 56-Commonwealth countries, where the best innovations from each country, as well as partners and organizations, will be showcased.
