MP Peter Salasya: Satan is influencing my behavior

By Sammy Waweru January 14th, 2024 2 min read

Peter Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East, now attributes his questionable behavior to Satan.

According to the first-time serving lawmaker, he does not understand what has come over him.

The MP, elected on the Democratic Action Party – Kenya (DAP-K) ticket in the 2022 general elections, has been involved in physical fights with almost anyone who crosses his path.

Taking to his X account (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, January 14, 2024, Mr Salasya apologised to his electorate and the country at large, promising to control his anger.

He admitted that his actions in the recent past have not been those of a role model for society, especially for the young people he represents.

“I, Peter Salasya, wish to express a sincere apology to the people of Mumias East and all Kenyans at large. My actions in the recent past have not been that of a role model or an example to the young men and women. Going forward, I promise to control my anger and reaction. Ni shetani aki (It is the work of Satan),” the MP wrote.

In a recent incident, Mr Salasya fought with an MCA at a funeral service in Kakamega County.

The ward representative, identified as Peter Walunya Indimuli, welcomed Salasya to the podium at the burial of Dr Harrison Kodia’s wife and requested the MP to respect the family’s grief in his remarks.

However, Salasya reportedly responded arrogantly, sparking unrest among mourners.

The situation swiftly escalated, culminating in Salasya allegedly physically assaulting Indimuli with blows and slaps.

Witnesses reported hearing four gunshots, presumably fired by the MP’s security detail.

Fortunately, members of the public intervened, pulling Indimuli to safety within the family compound.

The legislator was later arrested and released on police cash bail pending arraignment.

In November 2023, Salasya engaged in a fight with a group of alleged goons at an event attended by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa.

The physical fight erupted when he tried to criticize the County Governor over the revival of Mumias Sugar Company.

In May 2023, chaos erupted at a funeral ceremony he (Salasya) had attended in Kakamega County.
