Political rivalry put aside as Gladys Boss attends dowry ceremony of James Orengo’s son
Political rivalry was temporarily shoved aside as politicians allied to both the government and opposition side graced the tradition wedding of Siaya Governor James Orengo’s son.
The traditional union brought together the families of Micheal Orengo and Samantha Luseno.
Among those present at the colourful event was opposition leader Raila Odinga, a known political ally and personal friend of Mr Orengo, who doubles up as a renowned lawyer.
Also present was Governors Ochillo Ayacko (Migori), Wilber Otichillo (Vihiga), and Paul Otuome (Busia) alongside former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
Mr Odinga praised and congragulated the couple and urged them to respect and support each other through challenges.
He said: “Intermarriage (between different tribes) in the country will help unite Kenyans.”
The bride is from Western Kenya while the groom hails from the lakeside region.
At the event, the groom donned an elegant cream suit paired with a black shirt, while his fiancée opted for a traditional African print dress.
The customary event also doubled up as an occasion for the two families to negotiate the bride price.
Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo, who hosted the gathering, shared event photos on his social media platforms, expressing his joy in witnessing the union and the cultural exchange it represented.
“I welcomed my brother Orengo James in Vihiga for dowry negotiations between the Orengo and Luseno families. Congratulations to Michael & Samantha for honouring your kin and culture – that which defines our heritage and unites our people,” he stated.
Also present were Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, and National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei, who is a close ally of President William Ruto, plus prominent business Jimi Wanjigi.
The tough speaking Shollei, who also is the Uasin Gishu Woman Representative, extended her best wishes to the newlyweds, highlighting the pride of parents witnessing their children embark on this new chapter of life.
