‘This is my first time to Kenya!’ US rapper Fabolous confirms Nairobi concert

American Hip hop act Fabolous has confirmed that he will be in Nairobi next week for his first concert in the city.

Fabolous is expected to perform in Nairobi on August 10 at Sk8city, which recently opened its doors on the top floor of Diamond Plaza II in Nairobi.

While confirming that he will be in Nairobi, the hitmaker of Into You (Tamia), Shawty Is a 10 (The Dream), Addiction (Ryan Leslie), She Got Her Own (Jamie Foxx) among others, urged his fans in the country to turn up and celebrate 50 years of hip hop.

“I just want to let you know that I’m coming to Nairobi, Kenya, on August 10 and I will be performing live at Sk8city. So meet there and it is going to be big. It is my first time in Kenya, so see all my people come out and celebrate, turn up with me, see you all out there,” he said in a video clip that was shared by the organisers.

Born John David Jackson, Fabolous began from very humble beginnings in the underground hip-hop world and subsequently carved a cult following for his style of music.

He had his breakthrough in 2001 with the hit song “Can’t Deny It” from his debut LP Ghetto Fabolous. Ghetto Fabolous reached number three on the Billboard 200 chart and sold over 1.5 million copies by 2003.

Sk8City Nairobi, on their part, said that they are thrilled to announce an extraordinary event that is sure to ignite the city’s music scene.

“We’re hosting none other than the renowned hip-hop artist, Fabolous, for a captivating live performance that promises to be a tour-de-force of rhythm, lyricism, and energy,” they said on their website.

Sk8city is a new chill spot with an indoor skating rink that opened last month. It channels a Y2K (early 2000s) vibe with neon signs and disco lights while a DJ plays an assortment of music which is heavily influenced by R&B from the early 2000s. It is the first indoor rollerskating rink in East Africa.

The skating rink is open to people of all ages during the day, then it transforms into a nightclub at night until 3 am. The facility also hosts theme nights and events set up such as Throwback Thursdays.

Sk8city will host a Barbie Friday on July 28 for fans to watch the newly released Barbie movie at the Anga cinema, roller-skate sessions and refreshments for Sh2,000.
