Why you should carry an umbrella to the Mashujaa fete

The Mashujaa Day celebrations slated for the Kericho Green stadium on October 20, 2023, might start early due to the current weather pattern.

According to the seven day rainfall forecast from the weatherman, rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country including Kericho, hence advisable to step out with umbrellas.

Weatherman stated in the next one week, isolated storms may affect the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, North-eastern, and North-western part of the country.

The statement from Kenya Meteorological Department states that the temperatures will be low during the nights as a few locations in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley will be expected to have chilly nights with temperatures below 10 degree Celsius.

In acknowledging the rainfall being experienced in Kericho and other parts of the country, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hinted that the Mashujaa Day program might start early.

Speaking in Kericho, the DP asked the residents to ensure that they turn up out for the event early in the morning to avoid being locked out.

“Tutaanza mapema kwa sababu ya mvua. Vile tumeona hii mvua inaweza kututatiza kwa hivyo mfike mapema mpate viti pale mbele ndio muweze kungalia na kuona kwa macho yale ambayo yatakuwa yanatendeka pale (We will start early because of the rain. We’ve seen that this rain might disrupt us, so come very early so that you can get where to sit on and be able to see what will be happening),” Gachagua said.

According to the planning team, only 10,000 people will be allowed to make their way into the stadium, and the rest will be allowed to follow the proceedings through the screens which will be mounted outside the stadium.

Gachagua said that the gates will be opened by 3am and the security will be ready to screen everyone entering the stadium for the big day.

This will be the first national event to be presided by President William Ruto to be held in Kericho County.

On Tuesday, the rehearsals were going on with military parade showcasing their matching styles in present of residents.

The town has seen several changes ahead of the celebrations including renovation of Kerenga Airstrip, and several roads in the town.
