Ruto thanks God after Supreme Court affirms his presidential win
President-Elect William Ruto praised God minutes after the Supreme Court affirmed his win.
In a post on his social media, Ruto said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.”
Ruto was affirmed by a seven-bench judge led by Chief Justice Martha Koome. He will be sworn in on September 13th as Kenya’s fifth president.
On Sunday while at a prayer meeting in Nakuru, Ruto asked Kenyans to pray for a smooth transition of power.
“I’d also request you in humility, to pray for President Uhuru Kenyatta even as he takes officiates transition of power as he will be partly in charge. Pray for God to grant him wisdom and help him so that we have a smooth transition devoid of challenges, a peaceful one so that Kenya moves forward,” he said.

Ruto was announced as the President-Elect days after the August 9th general election by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s chair Wafula Chebukati.
However, Raila Odinga, Ruto’s main presidential competitor challenged the win saying it was null and void.
Odinga moved to court armed with a full lorry of evidence and more than 50 lawyers to challenge the win.
Additionally, four commissioners led by Juliana Cherera also moved to court saying they’ve disowned Chebukati’s presidential results and would not take ownership of the results.
Holding a surprise press conference at Serena Hotel, in Nairobi moments before the IEBC boss announced the results, the commissioners alleged that the results were arrived at in an opaque manner without giving further details.
“We are not at Bomas because we cannot take ownership of the results that are going to be announced,” she said.
The CJ said that the judges unanimously voted to uphold Ruto’s win while dismissing petitions by Raila Odinga and 7 others.
