Visiting Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sanches confuses Kenya with Senegal
Visiting Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez confused Kenya with Senegal during a State briefing with President William Ruto in Nairobi.
During the event at State House, Nairobi, Mr Sanchez who is on a two-day official visit, said: “I think Spain is a potential ally in many areas that we can work together with Senegal in order to face common challenges that our societies are suffering.”
Adding: “Many thanks I’m very honored to be one of the first international leaders visiting you as the President of Senegal oops Kenya sorry and really looking forward to working together with your ministers.”
Kenya and Senegal are different African countries located in the East and West of Africa, respectively.
Kenyans are mainly English-speaking with Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, renowned as Africa’s business and safari hub.
Kenya is also renowned as the country that produces the best middle and long-distance runners in the world.
Senegalese meanwhile is a French-speaking country whose capital is Dakar, and renowned to produce some of the greatest football talents in the world.
Mr Sanchez, has, meanwhile, extended an invitation to President Ruto in Spain in a bid to strengthen relations between the two countries.
“I’m honored to be the first ever Spanish Prime Minister to visit Kenya. We are looking forward to working with you and having you in Spain next year,” he said.
The PM visit comes days after Spain’s ambassador to Kenya Ambassador Cristina Díaz Fernández-Gil shared that Spain would continue to strengthen bilateral economic ties with Kenya under the new administration.
Ms Fernández-Gil expressed confidence that under President Ruto’s mandate, Spain and Kenya would continue working together to consolidate and strengthen the bonds that unite the two states.
“We share common interests in the area of economic and trade relations, with an important presence of Spanish companies in Kenya implementing projects in strategic sectors such as energy, transport, water, agriculture, and tourism,” she said.
Ambassador Moi Lemoshira, the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Bilateral and Political Affairs Director General said the two countries enjoyed cordial bilateral relations, which had translated into strategic partnerships in regional and international affairs.
