Bobi Wine, Kizza Besigye handshake?
Uganda’s main opposition leaders Kiiza Besigye and Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine have increasingly been attended political events together, sparking speculations that they could be preparing to team up and face President Yoweri Museveni in the 2026 elections.
On Friday, Bobi Wine and Besigye attended an end of year prayer event in Kampala which was however disrupted by police.
The police in its characteristic brute show of force, blocked prayers organised by the United Forces of Change at Sharing Hall, Nsambya. What a shame! What would motivate the police and other regime functionaries to block prayers? 1/ pic.twitter.com/8CNojEHswb

The two politicians also visited Nairobi in November and attended a prayer session for victims of police brutality in Uganda.
During the 2021 elections, the two politicians conducted several media interviews where they stressed that the focus is not on the 2027 elections but showing the world that President Museveni has outlived his usefulness.
But then, with the elections three years away, and speculations rife that President Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kainerugaba is angling to succeed his dad, what exactly is Besigye and Bobi Wine upto?

Initially suggestions are that Bobi Wine could deputise the more experienced Besigye in the 2026 poll, in what on paper appears a formidable opposition force against Museveni
Besigye has lost to Museveni in the 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016 elections. He alleged rigging in all instances. Bobi Wine lost to Museveni in 2021 and also alleged foul play.
Museveni has ruled Uganda for close to four decades, ever since he shot his way into State House in a guerrilla war in 1986.
His administration has of late come under increasing scrutiny from the public and international community over reported human rights abuses.
