ODM ‘rebels’ snub Azimio rally, meet DP Gachagua

Seven six legislators from Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition who recently met President William Ruto at the State House, on Friday skipped the coalition’s rally in Kisii County and instead met Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The MPs who met the Deputy President are Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o (Lang’ata), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Paul Abuor (Rongo), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo) and Kisumu Senator Prof Tom Ojienda.

The seven MPs have since been isolated by Azimio coalition for working with the government, which they are currently resisting.

The Azimio rally in Kisii was attended by Azimio principles, led by Mr Raila Odinga, Mr Kalonzo Muyoka and Ms Martha Karua among others.

Meanwhile, the DP said they discussed the development programme that the MPs have in place.

He reiterated President William Ruto’s commitment to ensuring no one will be left behind in development.

“We agreed on continuous engagements with the legislators, and indeed leaders from all parts of the country irrespective of political or any other affiliation,” Gachagua said.

Other government officials who attended the meeting included ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.

The seven MPs also met with Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu in a separate meeting.

Lang’ata MP Jalang’o said they shared their respective constituencies’ strategic plans with the Education CS.

Early this week, Jalang’o was barred from attending an Azimio Parliamentary Group meeting in Maanzoni, Machakos County.

Azimio has also challenged the seven MPs to resign and seek fresh mandate for their seats in other political parties outside the coalition.
