Man in court for threatening to kill his relatives and a police officer


A 25-year-old boda boda rider who threatened to kill his sister, father and a police officer has pleaded guilty to charges of issuing death threats.

Mr Philip Odhiambo Ouma admitted that he threatened to kill his sister Yanga Atieno Ouma while holding a knife to her neck as she lay down on the ground, at their house in Huruma Estate in Nairobi on March 13, 2023.

He also admitted a second similar count of threatening to kill his father Elphas Oduor while armed with a knife. Mr Ouma also threatened to kill police constable Humphrey Odongo who intervened after Mr Oduor reported the incident at Huruma Police Station.

He attempted to stab the police officer who then shot him on the leg in an attempt to subdue him.

On the material day, Mr Oduor was heading home when he received a phone call from his daughter who informing him that her brother was threatening to kill her.

He hurried home and found the accused person outside the house holding the knife while his daughter and her siblings had locked themselves inisde the house. Mr Oduor pleaded with the accused to drop the knife but he told said he had not accomplished his mission.

The accused also threatened to kill his father as charged towards him while holding the knife prompting Mr Oduor to run for his life and later reporting the matter at Huruma Police Station.

PC Odongo accompanied him to the house where the officer was confronted by the accused. The accused person attempted to stab him with the knife but the officer shot him on the left leg.

Even then he continued threatening to kill the policeman. Mr Ouma was arrested and locked up at Huruma Police Station.

He admitted the charges before Principal Magistrate Eric Mutunga of the Makadara Law Courts. The case will be mentioned on March 21, 2023 when the prosecution will lay out its case.
